SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2-5pm
Grove Classroom 1, Grove School, Totnes TQ9 5ED
In this 3 hour workshop you will be weaving on simple body-tensioned looms comprising a 20cm wide rigid heddle and a backstrap, with each participant having their own to use.
Looms will be setup ready, so following a brief demonstration of the basic techniques, you will be able to get weaving!
As you gain confidence Rebecca will offer guidance to extend your weaving and design skills, encouraging experimentation with a range of yarn colours, thicknesses, textures and fibres, to include the British Wools and Natural-dye colours used in her own designs.
The Warping, Threading and Tensioning of this type of loom will be demonstrated and at the end of the workshop we will discuss ‘finishing’.
You will create a woven sampler approx.. 20cm wide to take home; depending on your choice of yarns, complexity of weaves and speed of weaving you could have a length of around 50cm - to enjoy as a hanging, used to embellish something like a cushion, or with some simple stitching made into a bag or pocket for .... whatever you need one for!
What to bring: All equipment is provided. Warp yarn and an assortment of weft yarns are provided, however if you would like to try your own weft yarns please feel free to bring with you. Please bring £25 in cash if you think you may like to purchase the loom you have used in the workshop.
